John Partrick "Mel" Sullivan

February 6, 1946 - June 15, 2023

John Partrick "Mel" Sullivan, age 77, was born in New Orleans on February 6, 1946 and passed away Thursday afternoon June 15, 2023 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a former longtime resident of Dallas and had lived with family in Mount Hermon for the last few years. Mel, as he was known to his friends and family, received his B.S. degree from Louisiana State University, a law degree from Tulane University and a Master’s degree from The University of Texas plus other extensive education. He worked as an accountant for many years in Dallas, which often required him to serve clients in Brazil and other countries in South America. His time there allowed Mel to become a fluent speaker in both Portuguese and Spanish. He later taught Spanish language classes at different high schools in New Orleans and at Tulane. He was a very civic-minded person that enjoyed attending community meetings and events. Mel always loved reading and traveling.

Survived by: Mother: Huey Louis Schilling Sullivan of Mt. Hermon; Sisters and a Brother in law: Jill Sullivan of Mt. Hermon, Jane and Owen Joyner, Janet Sullivan all of New Orleans; Nieces and Nephews: Alaine Azcona and her son Jack, Brian Azcona, Matthew Azcona, Edward and Kathryn Joyner, William Joyner; Special Friends: Joan Esteve Steichen, Brad Evanoff; Also numerous cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his father John Patrick Sullivan and a brother in law Chuck Freeland.

Visitation will be at Mount Hermon Methodist Church (30428 Spurlock Road, Mt. Hermon) on Saturday June 17th from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 10:00 am Saturday with Rev. Byron Putnam officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hermon Cemetery.
