Lillie Merle Rogers Hamilton

March 30, 1934 - May 28, 2023

Lillie Merle Rogers Hamilton, age 89 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon May 28, 2023 at her home. She worked for 25 years at the Stage Department Store in Morgan City and later 25 years at Rutter Rex after moving back to Franklinton. Lillie was a longtime active member of Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she helped to prepare and serve countless meals for all types of church events and get-togethers. She was also very supportive of her husband’s service to their church as choir director and church clerk. She was a very thoughtful person and quick to help others in need, during an illness or times of sorrow. Lillie’s family was her life and brought her tremendous joy. She served her motherly role well, first to her own children and later took great care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, baby-sitting and supporting them as they grew.

Survived by: Children and Spouses: Gary Vernell Hamilton and Janice Hamilton of Gretna, LA., Valerie Ann Hamilton Penton and Kelson Penton of Franklinton; Grandchildren and Spouses: Christopher and Tia Hamilton,

Ryan and Aimee Hamilton, Michelle and Mark Gunnell, Elizabeth Hamilton, Johnathan Watson, Morgan and Hannah Penton, Josh and Brittany Penton, Shelley and Dustin Stringer; Great-Grandchildren: Ethan Hamilton, Sophia Hamilton, Remi Hamilton, Brodie Hamilton, Winter Hamilton, Caitlin Gunnell, Cooper Gunnell, Caroline Gunnell, Jacob Watson, Sam Penton, Will Penton, Brayden Stringer, Jackson Stringer, Cooper Penton, Clair Penton; Great-Great-Grandchild: Clara Jane Wedig; Sisters and a Brother in law: Billie Beth Cahill, Willie Mae McElveen, Ladonics and Kerry Sharp; Brother in law and Sister in law: Rondell and Sybil Hamilton; Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years James Vernell Hamilton, parents Merle “Bill” Rogers and Ella Taylor Rogers, father in law and mother in law Eld. G.V. Hamilton and Velma Wade Hamilton, brothers in law Ronald Cahill, Monroe McElveen, Donald Hamilton, Wendall Hamilton, sister in law Jenny Pearl Hamilton, sister in law and brother in law Lavada and Mickey Mixon.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday May 30th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday at Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church (28608 James Creel Road, Franklinton, LA 70438) from10:00 am until the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Eld. Duane Ball, Eld. Lerand Hunt and Eld. Mark Hobgood officiating. Burial will follow in the Magee Cemetery at Lawrence Creek.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to Southeast Louisiana Home Health and to the staff of Community Care Hospice for their loving support.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Lawrence Creek Baptist Church at the address above.

Pallbearers: Christopher Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, Johnathan Watson, Ethan Hamilton, Morgan Penton, Cooper Gunnell, Jacob Watson.

Honorary Pallbearers are Josh Penton, Linus Magee, Jack Whaley, R.B. Tullos, John Elmer Breland, Alvin Ingram and her beloved great-grandchildren.
