Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Jimmy Travis reports two people are behind bars in connection with the April 15, 2023 murder of Romero "Sparky" Watkins Jr. TPSO had responded in the early morning hour to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Wardline and Durbin Road in Hammond and found Watkins, Jr. deceased in the driver's seat of his vehicle.
Detectives were able to identify a suspect, 25 year-old Jervarion "Jay" Smith of Hammond. On Thursday (April 27, 2023), Smith was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on the charges of second degree murder and Obstruction of Justice. Also arrested was 20 year old Lagaria "Breezy" Bryant of Amite on the charge of Obstruction of Justice.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office would like to thank the public and the Louisiana State Police for their help in this investigation.
