The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reports the arrest on February 16, 2023 of 31 year old Maili Morris of Hammond, LA following a lengthy investigation. Morris is accused of financial crimes against the elderly by ordering approximately $12,000.00 worth of food and merchandise from restaurants and stores in the Hammond area between November 2022 - January 2023.
The TPSO Financial Crimes Unit discovered Morris made these purchases using a debit card belonging to her 73 year-old aunt, which Morris had linked to her personal DoorDash account. When the victim discovered her bank account was overdrawn by several hundred dollars, she checked her account and noticed charges to DoorDash. The investigation also showed Morris made 136 orders from various other vendors including Big Lots, Petsmart, Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General and several fast food restaurants.
Morris was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish jail on a total of 816 criminal counts:
- (136) counts - Identity Theft
- (136) counts - Bank Fraud
- (136) counts - Computer Fraud
- (136) counts - Felony Theft
- (136) counts - Access Device Fraud
- (136) counts - Exploitation of the Infirmed
Morris remains incarcerated in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on a bond of $18,360,000 (eighteen million, three hundred sixty thousand dollars).
Chief Travis wants the public to rest assured that any crimes against the elderly citizens of Tangipahoa Parish will not be tolerated and offenders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.
