Barbara Retta Holmes Nelson

February 25, 1954 - March 14, 2023

Sister Barbara Retta Holmes Nelson was born on February 25, 1954, to the late Henrietta Dillon Holmes and Author Quinn, Sr. On Tuesday, March 14, 2023 God sent for Sister Barbara to come on home and rejoice with him. Her last days were filled with LOVE. She left this world at peace with life. She loved everyone that she grew to know, and they loved her too.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. She loved attending Church activities on the days she could attend. Making memories is when she enjoyed with everyone that loved her.

Barbara was a part of the Prayer line, Maggie Barnes Sunday School, Senior Choir when she was able to attend. Her favorite songs were, “Now Behold the Lamb”, “The Storm is Over Now”, “Something About the Name Jesus”, and “The Best in Me”.

Barbara leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children, Roderick A. Holmes and Shelita R. Holmes; a devoted friend, Steve A. Nelson; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grands, a sister, Diane Holmes; a brother, Author Quinn, Jr; aunts, Sherman L. Brown of Chicago, Alva Ellezy of New Orleans, Willean Ellezy of Bogalusa, and Ethel Matin of Ok, CA

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Juarita William and Emma Holmes; grandson, Ja’Den L. Burton; son-in-law, John R. Fland.

Drive Through viewing will be on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 3:00PM -6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, La.

Funeral service will be on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 1:00PM Sweet Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Parker – Officiating. Interment – Bogalusa Cemetery. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa are in charge of arrangement.
