Obituary

Bessie Lee Davis

August 29, 1928 - March 24, 2023

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  II Timothy 4:7-8

Sis. Bessie Lee Magee Davis was born on August 29, 1928 to the late Edgar T. and Edna James Magee. She waws the 4th child out of 12 siblings and 2nd oldest daughter.

Bessie joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. She walked her Christian life under the leadership of the late Dr. William Vernon and she continued worship under Rev. Johnny Causey, Sr. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior under the leadership of the late Rev. Linwood Bolton, Sr. She was a member of the Senior Choir and Women’s Day Devotional Service for many years and remain faithful until her health failed.

Bessie's favorite scripture 23 Psalms, Hymn “I Loved the Lord He heard my Cry". She went to Silver Creek School and worked in the Washington Parish School System for several years as a cafeteria worker. Bessie was straightforward and worthy of respect.

Bessie was known for her OWN famous chicken and dumplings, cornbread dressing, cakes, pies, canning fruits and gardening goods too. She loved to cook for her church family and other occasion too. She was a giving person will do anything to help you. Bessie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. But most of all, she loved the Lord.

Bessie met and and was married to Elbert Davis, Sr. (deceased) for 58 years and to this union 8 children were born.

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughter, Connie (Reginald) Causey, Yvonne Youngblood, Bobbie Davis all of Franklinton, LA; four sons, Herbert (Elouise) Davis, Sr. of Baton Rouge, LA, Elbert (Louise) Davis, Jr., Kenneth (Revonnie) Davis of Franklinton, LA, and Terry (Sandra) Davis of Mt. Hermon, LA; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen grandchildren, three brothers, Min. Otis (Ruthie) Magee, Winnfield, ­Magee, Arthur (Mertice) Magee of Houston, TX, Benjamin Magee of Franklinton, LA; one brother-in-law, Clarence of New Orleans, LA; four special friends, Audrey Tate, Mr. Warren, Elizabeth Smith, Laura Varnado.

Preceding her in death her husband, Elbert Davis, Sr.; brother brothers, Curtis, Myrtis, Vernell, Marshall, and Paul Magee; three sisters-in-law, Faye Magee, Charlene Magee, Francis Magee; one brother-in-law, Andrew Haughton, also a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and other friends.

Services will be at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Franklinton, Louisiana on April 1, 2023. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
