Naomi Dell Rawls

September 20, 1937 - February 17, 2023

Naomi D. Rawls, age 85 and a resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on February 17, 2023, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, LA.  She was born in Gillsburg, MS on September 20, 1937.  She spent time teaching after graduation from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1979 and went back to attain her master's degree where she later became a diagnostician with the Bogalusa School Board.  She worked in the school system for many years and eventually retired at the age of 75.  She was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Bogalusa, LA where she served as Sunday School Teacher for well over 40 years.

She is survived by her sons, Greg (LaDonna) Rawls of Odenville, AL and Gary (Sharon McClendon) Rawls of Bogalusa, LA; her daughters, Donna Rawls Varnado and Dana Rawls (Ray) Thomas both of Bogalusa, LA; grandchildren, Reed (Katelin) Varnado and Daniel Varnado; Hunter (McKenzie) Thomas and Jessica (Travis) Mauthe; great grandchildren, Khloe and Addison Mauthe, Rawls and Mary Madalyn Thomas, Olivia and Connor Varnado;  step grandchildren, Jason and Derek Sumrall, and Josh McClendon; her brother, Don Bellue of Baton Rouge, LA; her sister, Carline Jenkins of Bogalusa, LA; and a sister-in-law, Ann Bellue of West Monroe, LA.

Naomi is preceded in death by her husband, Lavaughn M. Rawls; a brother, Bennie Bellue; a brother-in-law, Rudolph Jenkins; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Jimmy) Roussell; and her parents, Carl and Maggie Frazier Bellue.

A graveside service to celebrate Naomi’s life will be held at Hillview Memorial Gardens on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Rev. Mark Morelock will officiate the service.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers please make donations to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
