Obituary

Wendell Scott Dyson

October 12, 1956 - February 8, 2023

Wendell Scott Dyson was born to the late Terry C. Dyson, Sr. and the late Hynither B. Dyson he is the third of four siblings.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry C. Dyson, Jr. He departed this life on February 8, 2023, in Franklinton, Louisiana. 

After graduating in 1974 from Franklinton High School in Franklinton, LA, he entered the United States Navy. He served valiantly to stand watch as assistant to officers of the deck and the navigator; served as helmsman and performed ship control, navigation, and bridge watch duties; procured, corrected, used, and stowed navigational and oceanographic publications and kept correct navigational time. He often referred to himself as a Stargazer. He traveled all over the world.

Wendell received commendations, such as National/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Joint Services Achievement Medal. He had a distinguished career that spanned 27 years culminating with retirement from serving as Senior Chief Quarter Master Surface Warfare at the U.S. Navy National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

He leaves to mourn two devoted sons,  DeJuan Dyson (Giaunna), Gonzales, LA and DeLarian Dyson (Araceli), Citrus Heights, CA;  sisters, Barbara Dyson Cager (Donald), Fort Worth, TX and Nora Dyson Durham, Garland, TX; the “Joy of his Life”- 3 granddaughters, Kennedy, Ayla, Brielle; nieces, Dannell Cager Rodrigue, Tamika Dyson, Courtney Durham; nephews, Donald Cager II (Bea), Terry C. Dyson III; aunt, Edith Dyson, San Francisco, CA, Alyne Dillon Spikes, Alice Dillon, Martha Dillon, and the late Debra Dillon, all from Franklinton, LA; and a host of relatives and friends.

Drive Through Viewing- Friday, February 17, 2023, 3pm to 6pm

Funeral-Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11am at Crain & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Washington St, Franklinton, LA 70438.
