Edgar Louis "Jed" Jenkins, Sr.

October 21, 1944 - February 17, 2023

Edgar Louis "Jed" Jenkins, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 17, 2023. He was born in the Springhill Community on October 21, 1944 to the late Walter “Slim” Jenkins and Lorena Sanders Jenkins. Jed enjoyed horseback riding and spent many years roping cattle. He later mastered the art of hobbycrafts building seasonal yard displays and bird feeders. Jed loved animals and attending livestock sales, to which he often took his grandchildren. He never met a stranger and made sure to share stories about his family. Jed loved to sing. He was a song leader for many years and also organized numerous gospel singings. Jed was a member of the Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church and will be remembered as a proud father and grandfather. We will miss his early morning, weekday calls to get our day started.

Jed leaves behind his wife of 30 years: Mary Lynn O’Berry Jenkins of Franklinton; 2 sons and daughters in laws: Lester and Michelle Jenkins of Ponchatoula, Edgar Jr. and Jackie Jenkins of Franklinton; 1 daughter and son in law: Tammy and Stephen Stewart of Franklinton; 12 grandchildren and their spouses: Trey and Abby Jenkins, Tyler and Malloree Jenkins, Tanner and Kelsey Jenkins, Trevor and Sciana Jenkins, Nick and Keri Jenkins, Genifer and Benjamin Jones, Matthew and Laiton Stewart, Joshua and Kaitlyn Stewart, Delaney and Evan Sinopoli, EveMaelyn Jenkins, Jessica Thomas, Matthew Thomas; 12 great-grandchildren: Liam, Wyatt, Hadleigh, Jovi, Jack, Raif, Beau, Tucker and Trey Jenkins, Briar Jones, Hazel Stewart, and Lillian Sinopoli; 1 sister and brother in law: Sarah and James Williams of Baton Rouge; Sisters in law and Brothers in law: Shirley O’Berry, Kenny O’Berry, Walter O’Berry, Kathy Kennedy, Stanley O’Berry; Also numerous nieces and nephews

He was also preceded in death by brothers Jerry Jenkins and Walter Durwwod “W.D.” Jenkins, mother in law Elma O’Berry and other family members

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Sunday February 19th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Monday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Monday with his grandson Bro. Trey Jenkins and Bro. Duane Ball officiating. Burial will follow in the Whaley Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Tyler Jenkins, Tanner Jenkins, Trevor Jenkins, Nick Jenkins, Matthew Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Benjamin Jones, Evan Sinopoli
