Obituary

Donna M. Ellzey

September 15, 1960 - November 18, 2022

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever" Psalm 23:6

On Friday, November 18, 2022, at the age of 62, our loving mother, daughter and sister earned her wings and was called to the heavens above. Ms. Donna Michelle Ellzey was born to Mr. Winfred and Mrs. Ina Willene Ellzey of Bogalusa, LA on September 15, 1960.

At a young age, Donna joined Harry"s Chapel UMC.  At the age of 13 she moved to Los Angeles with her mother and sister, where she became a faithful member of Cornerstone Institutional Baptist Church, where she sang with Rev. James Cleveland and The Voices of Cornerstone.  She was also crowned Queen of the Church in the late 70s.

Following her graduation from Los Angeles High School, Donna spent more than 30 dedicated years working for the County of Los Angeles.  She became a devoted mother to her son Sheldon Guy Wilson, instilling in him a sense of gratitude and responsibility.  Throughout the years, she would take him and his cousins to volunteer, feeding the homeless of the City of Los Angeles during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve, which inspired his career path to become a Club House Director, Mentor and Leader of over 400 youth in Southern Nevada between the ages of 6 and 21.

A beaming light of positivity, uniqueness and unselfishness, Donna thrived on loving those around her, which she showed either, through cooking Sunday dinners for them, buying small tokens of appreciation or just loving on them by affectionately calling them "Boobie". In short, she never met a stranger that didn't become family.

After her courageous fight with colon cancer, Donna moved back to Bogalusa, LA five years ago.  In Bogalusa, she resumed her fellowship with Harry's Chapel where she served on the Communion Board.

Donna's memory and legacy will be cherished by: Ina Willene Ellzey (Mother), Sheldon Guy Wilson (son), S. Renee (Kirk) Hill (sister), Stanley (Celia) Burris and Alvin (Bernice) Moses (brother), Ben (Angie) Gardner (cousin), life long friend Guy Wilson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and close friends whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Winfred Ellzey, Godbrother Alton (Carol) Smith, grandparents Claude and Beulah Green and Albert and Luchia Ellzey, Aunts: Sally Lewis and Mae Etta Cowart, Uncle Charlie Ellzey, Uncle and Aunt Walter and Autoria Gardner and Godparents Richard  and Emma Woodridge.

The Funeral Service was at 11:00 AM on November 30, 2022 at Harry's Chapel U.M.C. in Bogalusa, Louisiana.

Cook-Richmond Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
