Ruth Alyne McDaniel Smith
March 25, 1949 - November 21, 2022
Ruth Alyne McDaniel Smith departed this world peacefully in Franklinton, Louisiana on Monday, November 21, 2022, after 73 joyful years of life. She was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on March 25, 1949. She was a life-long resident of Washington Parish, living in Bogalusa and Franklinton.
Ruthie was a 1969 graduate of Bogalusa High School. She worked for many years at Franklinton Association for Challenged Citizens.
Her hobbies included search-word books, movies, bingo, coloring, and hand embroidery; a skill she learned from her mother. Collaboratively, they would quilt beautiful pieces together, Ruthie creating the intricate details, and some of which are displayed at the Varnado Store Museum on occasion. Her favorite past time was visiting the Washington Parish Free Fair every year.
Ruthie enjoyed many activities provided by the Washington Parish Activity Center and the Washington Parish Council on Aging, the family extends their gratitude for these services offered in our community.
She is survived by: Three nieces: Christy Burrell Case, Debbie Tuller, Daina Burrell Wager; two nephews: James Tuller (Christa) and Rodney Burrell (Beth); great nephews and nieces: Christian Case, Caitlin Case Morris (Jamie Kyle), Dillan Shank, Erin Shank Moak, Andrew Wager (Krystle), Nathan Case, Aiden Burrell, Ava Burrell, Gabrielle Tuller Oubre (Robert); and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris K. and Ettie Haley McDaniel; her sisters, Emma Lois McDaniel Tuller and Sylvia McDaniel Burrell
The family would like to extend gratitude to Ruthie’s numerous caregivers throughout the years.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday November 24th in the Ponemah Cemetery in Bogalusa with Rev. Marcus Rosa officiating.
