William Everett "Dick" Forbes

October 20, 1938 - November 9, 2022

William Everett “Dick” Forbes, age 84, was born October 20, 1938 in Tylertown, MS to the late Reece Forbes and Lillie Mae Dillon Forbes. He passed away in his home of 56 years in the Stateline Community on Wednesday November 9, 2022. Dick grew up in a large family in Walthal County, where his father was a blacksmith and construction worker and his mother was a school cafeteria worker. He became a father to William Michael Forbes and joined the Mississippi National Guard before he was 20 years old.

Dick then met Stella L. McKenzie and married her on October 27, 1962. They were blessed to be married 59 years until her recent passing. They lived in New Orleans for a short time while Dick worked in the shipyard. The couple moved back to the McKenzie land and welcomed their first child, Dana L. Forbes in November 1963. They started building their forever home shortly afterwards. Dick, his father and brothers, would meet in Franklinton to travel to construction jobs in different areas like New Orleans and Baton Rouge. He was a hard worker and devoted father. The couple had 2 more daughters, Shannon L. Forbes Barclay in October 1970 and Angela L. Forbes in November 1971. He often worked long hours but would manage to attend the many basketball games and other sporting events for his daughters.

Dick was a member of Stateline Missionary Baptist Church since 1978 and was also a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Pine. He went into business with his brothers and formed Forbes Construction and later Difco Construction. They built a reputable business while doing maintenance work at the Bogalusa paper mill, Wiggins, MS paper mill and the mill in Pine Bluff, AR, before he retired at age 62.

Dick’s love of hunting would lead him to Colorado, where he purchased 40 acres and built a beautiful log cabin in the town of Walden. They welcomed many friends and family members over the 30 years and he killed many trophy elk and a black bear. One of his favorite past times was sitting on the patio smoking his pipe to enjoy the outdoors and sitting around visiting with his family and friends.

He was blessed with 4 grandchildren and spoiled them every moment that he could. Jon-Ashton Dykes, Lili Alivia Thomas both of Thomas, Savana Lee Barclay of McComb, MS, Marc Joseph and wife Emily Forbes of Virginia. He is also survived by: A Son: William Michael Forbes of San Antonio, TX; 2 Daughters: Dana L. Forbes of San Antonio, Shannon L. Barclay of McComb; Brother: Walton Forbes of Tylertown; Brothers in law and Sisters in law: Danny and Betty Knight, Jerry and Theresa McKenzie, Shelby and Mary Lee McKenzie, Sylvia Forbes, Claire Forbes; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Stella McKenzie Forbes, a daughter Angela Lynette Forbes Thomas, parents Reece and Lillie Mae Forbes, brother and sister in law John and Patsy Forbes, brothers Richard Forbes, Charles Forbes, Robert Forbes, sisters Jenell Forbes Dillon, Mary Forbes Cutrer, Jo Evelyn Forbes.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday November 12th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. A masonic rites service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday immediately followed by a funeral service with Bro. Brent King and Bro. Trey Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Crain’s Cemetery in Stateline.

Pallbearers: Jon-Ashton Dykes, Bladen Thomas, Britt Thomas, Tony Forbes, Timmy Forbes, Greg Forbes, Payton Knight, Charles Williams, Reggie Williams.
