Arrests Made in Shooting at St. Tammany Parish Fair

The Covington Police Department reports that, in the early morning hours of November 7, 2022, the CPD, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service, conducted search and arrest warrants at numerous residences in the Covington area in relation to the shooting incident that occurred outside the St. Tammany Parish Fair on October 1, 2022.

During the search, five (5) firearms, ammunition, and a large number of narcotics were seized from these residences, and three suspects were arrested in relation to the shooting incident.

Artreal McDowell (age 18) was charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm at a Parade or Demonstration, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Firearm Free Zone, Illegal Carrying of Weapons, and Criminal Street Gangs and Patterns of Criminal Street Gang Activity. 

Jonathan Bagent (age 28) was charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm at a Parade or Demonstration, Negligent Injuring, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Firearm Free Zone, Criminal Street Gangs and Patterns of Criminal Street Gang Activity, Possession With Intent To Distribute Marijuana (269 grams), Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Illegal Carrying of Weapons in presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances.

Anthony Ford Jr. (age 23) was charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by Person Convicted of Certain Felonies, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm at a Parade or Demonstration, Negligent Injuring, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Firearm Free Zone, and Criminal Street Gangs and Patterns of Criminal Street Gang Activity.

During the investigation, Jonah Garrett (age 26) was arrested for the following charges, unrelated to the shooting incident: Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms, Possession of Schedule I Marijuana (Felony), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Covington Police Chief Ferrell stated: “The Covington Police Department would like to thank the members of the community for coming forward and providing valuable information in relation to this investigation, helping to ensure our community is safe from these senseless acts of violence. We would like to thank the United States Marshal’s Service for their assistance in the apprehension of these individuals. We are extremely proud of the Criminal Investigations Division for working tirelessly on this incident from the time it occurred.”
