Obituary

Margaret Jeanette Thigpen Townsend

October 15, 1931 - October 7, 2022

Margaret Jeanette Thigpen Townsend, age 90 and a resident of Enon, went to her eternal home to be with Jesus on Friday morning, October 7, 2022. Margaret dedicated her life to being a homemaker for her family. She taught Home Economics for 20 years at Mandeville High School. Margaret was a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church where she played the organ for almost 40 years. She volunteered with other church activities such as Vacation Bible School, the Girls in Action organization and the Women’s Missionary Union. She loved flowers and gardening along with sewing, quilting, crocheting, cross stitching and smocking. One of Margaret’s most rewarding and fulfilling memories was camping with her husband, Lester, and with their grandchildren. Every summer they would take their grandchildren on the annual Enon camping trip to Wiggins, MS. The Smoky Mountains was one of her favorite vacation spots to camp and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Other favorites included Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Tetons.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years James Lester Townsend and parents Hershel Thigpen and Versie Jones Thigpen.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Jan and Ed DeMeyere of Slidell, Beth and Jamie Knight of Enon and Sue Bramble of Trenton, Georgia. Her grandchildren are Jeremy and Kala DeMeyere of Franklin, Tennessee, Todd Knight and fiancé Taylor Cotton of Folsom, Celeste Knight of Enon, who lived with her and so lovingly helped care for her the past few years, and Dwayne and Brittany Bramble of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her great grandchildren are Kyli and Josue DeMeyere and Gracie and Hunter Bramble as well as three sisters in law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are Ed DeMeyere, Dwayne Bramble, Brittany Bramble, Hunter Bramble and Deacons of Enon Baptist Church.

A celebration of her life will be held at Enon Baptist Church (14049 Hwy. 16, Franklinton) on Monday, October 10th. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 12:00 pm Monday with Rev. Chris Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
