Jo Jane Bond Magee Kern

December 8, 1928 - October 22, 2022

Jo Jane Bond Magee Kern passed away Saturday evening October 22, 2022. She was born on December 8, 1928 in Monroe, LA to the late Otis E. Bond and Ruby Walker Bond. As a child, she moved to Franklinton and lived her life there. Jo Jane was valedictorian of the Franklinton High School Class of 1946 and attended LSU. She married the late James H. “Jimmie” Magee and together they had three children, while raising their family on a dairy farm. After Jimmie’s death, Jo Jane worked at First State Bank in Franklinton for many years. She was an active member of the Homemaker’s Club and the Home and Garden Club. Jo Jane was a longtime member of Fisher United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher and cemetery committee member. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s organization.

Later, Jo Jane married the late Ralph Kern. They often participated in Farm Safety programs and Dairy Day events throughout Washington Parish. The couple volunteered at the Mile Branch Settlement at the Washington Parish Fair each year and enjoyed traveling. She visited Alaska, Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and other vacation spots around the country. She will be remembered as a quiet, kind person and will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Jo Jane is survived by: 3 Children and Spouses: Theresa and A.J. Cashio, Ray and Diane Magee, Philip and Cammie Magee; Grandchildren and Spouses: Dr. Michelle and Stuart Ponder, Jimmy Magee, Michael and Dominique Magee, Sarah Magee; Great-grandchildren: Micah Magee, Caleb Magee, Noah Magee, Madison Ponder; Sister: Dorothy “Dot” Taylor; Nephew and Nieces: Hampton Grunewald, Cheryl Charleton, Barbara Ann Childs, Janet Stevens, Diane Pepper; Also survived by numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, a sister Jacqueline Bond Kemp, brothers in law J.W. Taylor, Emmerson Kemp, William Grunewald, Beverly Noland, sisters in law Barbara Magee Grunewald, Dorothy Magee Noland, father in law and mother in law Hamp and Altha Magee, nephews Jim Taylor, Greg Taylor.

Visitation will be at Fisher United Methodist Church on Monday October 31st from 8:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Monday with Rev. Percy Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
