Nellie Ruth Rogers Jenkins

February 6, 1939 - September 17, 2022

Nellie Ruth Rogers Jenkins passed away peacefully at Riverside Medical Center on Saturday September 17, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 63 years William A. “Bill” Jenkins. She is also survived by her three children and their spouses Roger W. Jenkins and his wife Jill Jenkins, Rhonda Lambert and her husband Terry Lambert and Sondra Hunt and her husband Matthew Hunt. She had six grandchildren Rosalind Wilson and her husband Peter Wilson II, William Jenkins, Sarah Nell Hunt Kinsey and her husband Captain Matthew Kinsey, David Hunt, Reid Lambert and Leah Lambert. She also had two great grandchildren Peter Wilson III, and Mary Rogers Wilson.

She was preceded in death by parents George Rogers and Viola Bedwell Rogers, and her sister Ruthie Mae Graves. She is also survived by her brother James B. Rogers and her sister Verdie Mae Knight.

Nellie was born in the Pine Community on February 6, 1939. She graduated from Pine High School and began her long career in banking. She started as a banker in 1958 at First State Bank in Bogalusa, Louisiana and ultimately retired in 2000 as a Vice President of Hancock Bank in Franklinton, Louisiana. She was a member of the Franklinton Garden Club and after her retirement became a master gardener, while establishing a Mayhaw business and creating her own brand of jelly, “Nellie’s Jellies”, which she sold throughout the area. She was also a member of the Winterset Club.

Nellie enjoyed attending church throughout her life and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton. She especially enjoyed her time as a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church (903 Cleveland Street, Franklinton) on Wednesday September 21st from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Wednesday with Dr. Cody Warren and Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine First Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the New Sanctuary Fund of First Baptist Church (950 Self Street, Franklinton, LA 70438).

Honorary Pallbearers are her beloved members of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
