Hamp Shelton Carpenter
July 26, 1939 - September 24, 2022
Hamp Shelton Carpenter, age 83 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away early Saturday morning September 24, 2022 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country during the the Korean War Era. Shelton was a longtime member of Grace Missionary Baptist that loved reading his Bible and visiting revival services at other churches in the area. He was retired after over 40 years working for Standard Gravel, where he most recently served as a general supervisor. Shelton loved traveling on vacation and he enjoyed gardening, fishing and quail hunting. He also loved spending time with his family.
Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Judy and Allen Cosse of Franklinton; Son: Russell Carpenter of Franklinton; Grandchildren and Spouses: Heather and Paul Hebert, Holly and Clint Smith, She’na Carpenter, Jessica Carpenter and Ian Torres, Brittany Pias, Sara and Adam Luper, Brady Coglin; Great-grandchildren: Shelton, Shelby, Shellie, Faye, Bree, Reid, Huxley, Miles, Sadie, Riley, Audrey, Caroline, Clayton, Cambree, Mariana, Kanton, Ameliah; Great-great-grandson: Cayden; Also numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his daughter Maria Carpenter Coglin, wife Audrey Creel Carpenter, parents Johnny Carpenter and Alma Miley Carpenter, brother Robert Carpenter and sister Shirley Pomelow.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday September 26th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday at Grace Missionary Baptist Church from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 2:00 pm Tuesday with Eld. Edward Penton, Eld. Richard Magee and Eld. Adam Luper officiating. Burial will follow in the McNeese Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 24.
