Lucy Merle Barber McCain

July 7, 1946 - August 14, 2022

Lucy Merle Barber McCain, age 76 and a resident of Dexter, MS passed away Sunday morning August 14, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She worked for many years at Jack Brown’s Grocery Store in Franklinton before becoming a homemaker. Lucy was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church that enjoyed drawing and painting. She was an excellent cook, especially her family’s favorites Chicken ‘N Dumplins and delicious cookies. Lucy always enjoyed taking care of her chickens and barnyard animals and she had a special place in her heart for her pet dog “Muffy”.

Survived by: Husband of 59 years: Mickey J. McCain of Dexter; Sons: Mickey James McCain of the Hackley Community and his former wife Tammy, Marcus McCain and fiancé Sherri Warren of Dexter; Daughter and Son in law: Monica and Josh Morgan of Dexter; 5 Grandsons and Spouses: Jonathon and Christin McCain, Justin McCain, Dakota Hensley and fiancé Mallory Crowe, Bracey Morgan and fiancé Desi Crain, Kirby McCain; 2 Great-granddaughters: Olivia McCain, Josie Hensley; Sister: Linda Nell Creel of Dexter and her daughter Amber and Paul Gunckel; Sisters in law and Brothers in law: Helen Barber of Thomas, Marlin Riley of Mt. Hermon, Jeff and Charlotte McCain of Belmont, MS; Special Bonus Son: Rev. James “Jimmy” Bryant of South Carolina; Special Friend: Connie Jenkins of Denham Springs; Also numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents J.W. Barber and Dora Turnage Barber, sister Faye Riley and brother Pete Barber.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday August 16th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Tuesday with Rev. Kyle Thigpen and Rev. Don McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Baptist Church Cemetery.
