Dorothy Williams Wood

November 2, 1929 - August 1, 2022

Dorothy Williams Wood, age 92, met her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 1, 2022, surrounded by her children. Dot was born November 2, 1929, in Bush, LA to Elton Williams and Evie Quave Williams Delcuze. She attended Oak Grove Grammar School in Bush, LA and graduated from Lyon High in Covington, LA in 1946. She lived the remainder of her life in Sun, LA, after marriage to Nathan Turner Wood. She completed training as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at the Bogalusa Community Medical Center in Bogalusa, LA for 25 years, where she made many life-long friends. Dot exhibited a Godly Servant’s Heart to everyone she met by providing care and taking care of their physical and spiritual needs. Dot was also an active and faithful member of Sun First Baptist Church her entire adult life acting as church Treasurer, Secretary and Bible Study Leader for many years. She taught many VBS classes, was local and area Association President of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union, led Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, while also being active in her children’s school and sports activities. She enjoyed, traveling the US and the world, gardening, crafts, ceramics, flower arranging, sewing, her pets and most of all gathering with her family and friends. Her yard was always manicured and abloom with a variety of plants as a show case in her community.

Dot is survived by her children, Robert Lynn Wood, Barbara Wood Kellar, and Gwendolyn Wood Gole (Anthony). She adored her grandchildren Christopher Wood, Kaitlin Kellar, Kirstin Kellar Causey (John), Major Anthony Gole (Sara), and Lee Gole (Devin); as well as her great-grandchildren, Brennan Wood, Kellar Godfrey, Trip Godfrey, Jack Causey, Rebekka Gole, Gus Gole, Sophia Gole, Leeland Gole and eagerly awaiting the arrival of Copeland Turner Gole in October. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Williams Slade Pierce and sisters-in-law Audrey Favret Williams and Doris Williams, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Turner Wood; her parents, Elton Williams and Evie Quave Delcuze; her ex-husband, and her brothers Huey, Donald and Rawlin Williams.

A Celebration of Life Service, led by Pastor Stan Salassi, will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Sun First Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am and Services beginning at 12:00 noon. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private at the Grantham Cemetery in Bush, LA, at a later date. 

In lieu of floral arrangements, gifts may be made in her memory to Sun First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 892, Sun, LA  70463.
