16 Year-Old Charged in Covington Shooting

On Friday (July 1, 2022), Covington Police Chief Ferrell reported the arrest of a 16 year-old male on the charge of Attempted Second Degree Murder in connection with the shooting last Thursday (June 23, 2022) in the area of W. 29th Ave and N. Filmore St. A temporary lock down was initiated at Pine View Middle School out of precaution due to the school being in close proximity to the shooting scene. CPD learned that a person was struck by gunfire and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The juvenile was transported to Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center by orders of a 22nd Judicial District Judge, where he will await prosecution.

Chief Ferrell would like to thank the men and women of the Covington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division for their tireless work in this matter, as well as the members of the public who worked together with investigators to help solve this shooting investigation. Chief Ferrell further commented, “It is important for the parents of our community to hold their children accountable. Knowing the activities of your children can help keep them out of trouble and deter crime in our community.”
