9 Arrested Following Shooting in the Alton Community

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded yesterday (May 24, 2022) afternoon following a report of a vehicle being struck by gunfire in the Alton Community, near Slidell. Deputies responded around 2:30 PM to the 37000 block of North Third Street and determined that no one was injured. 

A residence was identified as the location from which the shooting occurred and a search of the residence was conducted. Nine persons inside the residence were arrested. Four juvenile children were also in the residence. 

Arrested were Dequan Moore (age 19), Jessica Batiste (age 38), Rose Victor (age 39), Hakeim Williams (age 18), Keenan Jones (age 24), Tony Celestine (age 21), Jack Simms (age 18), Paris Williams (age 22), and Malek Sylve (age 18). (See below under “Read More” for the charges)

Dequan Moore reportedly admitted to shooting at the vehicle and advised it was because he thought someone may have fired at him, which was proven to not be the case. The victim in the case was simply delivering food to a separate residence, was alone at the time and had no previous interaction with anyone involved.

“I want to thank the patrol deputies who responded to the initial call and the detectives with our Major Crimes Division who worked hard this afternoon and evening,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “They not only quickly identified the individual who fired the shots, but also made several related arrests after discovering a residence where children were found to be living with illegal narcotics and dangerous firearms left easily accessible and within their reach.”
