Shirley Carrier Pittman
September 18, 1937 – April 10, 2022
Shirley Carrier Pittman of Bogalusa, Louisiana peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, April 10, 2022. She was born in Bogalusa to Gilbert S. and Myrtis Kuhn Carrier as one of eleven children. Shirley was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and resided in Marion County for forty years prior to moving back to Bogalusa four years ago. She lived a very active life and was always on the go. She never met a stranger and enjoyed conversing with anyone. Shirley was involved in fund raising for many organizations and will be remembered for her generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Velma Graham, Doris Narretto, Ollie Smith and Joann Mitchell; six brothers, Elbert Carrier, Louis Carrier, Sidney Carrier, Olin Carrier, Gary Carrier, and Rodney Carrier; and her husband, Cecil Pittman.
Shirley is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Cleland (Frank); four sons, Larry Stafford (Sandra), Donald Stafford (Shirlene), Ronald Stafford (Tamela), and Elbert Stafford (Virginia); nineteen grandchildren, Frank “Bo” Cleland III, Army Major William Cody Cleland, Elbert Anthony Stafford, Ashley Nicole Stafford, Haylie Cierra Stafford, Alana Marie Larssen, Cheryl Marie Treadway, Matthew Taylor Treadway, Joshua Wayne Stafford, Johnathan Ryan Stafford, Jordan Alexander Stafford, Donna Marie Rico, Malcom Blake Stafford, Mitchell Edward Stafford, Jeremy Ryan Seal, Tanya Black, Kerry Landon Stafford, Amy Barnett, and Sabrina Powell; thirty one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Dr. George Moore and Reverend Jerry Watts, will be at the church on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 12:00pm. Burial will follow in Lott Cemetery.
Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia, Mississippi is in charge of arrangements.
