Obituary

Melvin Remington

January 21, 1927 - January 22, 2022

It is an honor to announce that Melvin G. Remington has been assigned to his final station in the presence of his Commander and Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ, on January 21, 2022, at the age of 95.

Mr. Remington was born in Diagonal, Iowa, and led a long and prosperous life. During his military career in the United States Navy Submarine Service, he circumnavigated the world multiple times including under the polar ice cap. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, ICC after 22 years. Upon retiring, he and his late wife, Freeda M. Remington, established residency in Bogalusa, LA.

Mr. Remington took a position as an electrical engineer with Boeing/NASA in New Orleans, LA., working on the Saturn V rocket. He later applied and was hired by the US Postal Service in Bogalusa, LA., working for another 20 years. He assisted his wife in running a rural paper route for the Bogalusa Daily News for a number of years. Mr. Remington obtained a Doctorate Degree in English Bible from The Gulf Coast Baptist Institution in Hattiesburg, MS., on May 4, 2002. Upon completion of his studies, he was invited to teach at the Institution which he did faithfully for 10 years.

Mr. Remington was a Charter member and Deacon at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church he faithfully attended until prevented by illness. Mr. Remington was a member and past president of the Local Lions Club.

Mr. Melvin is survived by his three daughters and son in laws: Priscilla Ann Remington Smith and her husband, Charles M. Smith, Freeda Kathleen Remington, and Carla Rae Remington Altenbach and her husband, Jon Altenbach; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Although we that are left behind will miss him, we know that he is now with the two most important persons in his life, The Lord Jesus Christ and his beloved wife, Freeda. Gone in peace on his 95th birthday. 

Mr. Remington is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Freeda M. Corkern Remington; brothers; and sisters as well as his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws.

Services will be at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Visitation will be on January 31, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on February 1, 2022. Interment will be at Isabel Baptist Church Cemetery.
