Zora Marie Howk

November 4, 1953 - December 19, 2021

Zora Marie Howk, age 68 and a longtime resident of the Lafayette area, passed away Sunday December 19, 2021 at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. She spent her growing up years in the Sunlight Community of Washington Parish near Franklinton, roaming the fields and playing in the creeks with her sisters, brother and cousins. Zora graduated from Franklinton High School in 1971 and then obtained a Merchandising Degree from Northwestern State University. She went on to have a long career as a Pharmacy Tech filling prescriptions at hospitals in DeRidder and Lafayette. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends. Zora loved spoiling her nieces and nephews Sara Howard Owen, Benjamin Howard, Catherine Schilling Cerveny and Morgan Schilling. Her most recent pleasure was treating her great-nieces and great-nephews with little surprises and there were always little gifts for her siblings. The last few weeks Zora has fought a very hard battle with leukemia and God was the victor. She is now forever with Him.

Survived by: Mother: Irene Corkern Howk of Carencro, LA; Siblings and Spouses: Valerie Howk Howard and Charles Howard, Edward Howk, Virginia Howk Waggoner and William Waggoner, Elizabeth Howk Schilling; Also her beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Howard H. Howk.

Visitation will be at Sunlight Baptist Church (18184 Sunlight Road, Franklinton, LA) on Sunday December 26th from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 2:00 pm Sunday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
