Obituary

Jan Fielding Adams

October 5, 1937 - December 15, 2021

Jan Fielding Adams, 84, went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2021, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Everyone who knew Jan knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle man and that he loved his family very much.

Jan was a master woodturner and artist who taught classes in Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi and Louisiana.  He mentored so many new woodturners including his son Jeff.  Many Bogalusans have one of his pens, platters or canes.   Jan was an enthusiastic Member of MCCA having served as a Duke and Lieutenant.  He designed and painted many of the Mardi Gras parade floats for over 20 years.  Jan and Valette were members of the Bogalusa Country Club.  Together they enjoyed entertaining and spending time with friends and family.

Jan is survived by his son Jeff (Lori) Adams; daughter Jana Adams Norwood, stepdaughter Gina (Bill) Laird; stepson Joseph (Rebecca) Giacone; sisters Sue Adams and Bonnie (Robert) Adams May; his grandchildren Thomas, Avery, Hayden, Michael, Brooke, Sarah, Jon, Harlan and great-granddaughters Aceley and Alani.

Jan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years, Valette Adams; his parents H. F. “Buck” and Maxine Adams; and a son Joe Fielding Adams.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until time for the memorial service at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial Methodist Church in Bogalusa, LA where he was a long-time member.  Reverend James Moore will officiate the services.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the ICU nursing staff at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, as well as the staff at Asbury Hospice House for their loving and attentive care of Jan.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Jan’s name to Asbury Hospice House, 304 40th Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS 39402 or any other hospice or hospital working so hard during this pandemic to serve our communities.

Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
