Convicted Felon Arrested After Traffic Stop

On Tuesday (December 7, 2021),  a Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detective was on criminal patrol near the town limits of Angie when he observed a driver committing traffic offenses. He was able to stop the vehicle near the town limits of Varnado and encountered the driver, Jovon Darrell McKinley, age 33 and a resident of Highway 438.

During the traffic stop, it was discovered that McKinley was in possession of illegal drugs as well as a fully loaded 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. McKinley, a convicted felon from a previous arrest for distribution of illegal drugs, was arrested and transported to the Washington Parish Jail on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of illegal drugs, failure to appear in court and traffic offenses. He remained in jail for two days until being released on a $15,250 bond.

“Even what seems like a simple traffic offense can lead to more serious issues,” stated Sheriff Randy Seal. “We may never know his intent in carrying a pistol, but we do know his pistol is now secure in our evidence storage vault.”
