Virginia "Ginny" Pierce Burris

February 9, 1948 - November 10, 2021

Virginia “Ginny” Pierce Burris, age 73, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. A long-time resident and community fixture of Franklinton, Ginny was retired after a long career teaching music at Franklinton Primary and Elementary schools as well as Enon Elementary School. She also spent many years directing the choir and playing the piano and organ at Centenary United Methodist Church, where she remained active throughout her life. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband of fifty years, Judge William “Bill” Burris, and embraced her role as Grammie to her nine grandchildren.

Ginny was a vibrant light in our world. She sang long and loud and drew those around her into the music. Her smile and easy laughter filled up a room, and her influence changed the lives of so many in her community.

She is also survived by: 5 Children and Spouses: Elizabeth and Jeff Bellocq of Metairie, LA, Jennifer and Chris Veillon of Missouri City, TX, Katie and Chris Johnston of Thompson Station, TN, William “Billy” and Lacy Burris, John W. and Natasha Provost Burris all of Franklinton; Grandchildren: Carter Veillon, Cole Veillon, Cooper Johnston, Hudson Johnston, Lila Burris, Cora Burris, Grace Burris, Lauren Burris, Luke Burris; 2 Brothers and a Sister in law: Robert Pierce of Shreveport, LA, Barry and Monica Pierce of Covington; Also nieces, nephews and many special friends

She was preceded in death by her parents Harvell Pierce and Dorothy Bell Pierce, father in law and mother in law Joe Burris and Gwen Sylvest Burris.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) Sunday November 14th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Centenary United Methodist Church (1015 Cleveland Street, Franklinton). A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Monday with Rev. Cecil Locke officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home (www.lumcfs.org / Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services; 904 DeVille Lane; Ruston, LA 71270) or to the Centenary Methodist Church Memorial Fund at the address above.
