Obituary

Pauline Lou Ford Martin

September 27, 1941 - October 9, 2021

Pauline Lou Ford Martin, age 80, died Saturday, October 9, 2021. After a difficult struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, she is now in perfect peace. Polly was born September 27, 1941 in Pineville, to the late Paul Harrington Ford of LeCompte and Vera Ethel Kees Ford of Pineville. She is a graduate of Pineville High School and of Northwestern State University.

Polly began her career at the state employment office in Baton Rouge where she met her husband James Larue Martin. Larue and Polly married and made their home in Pine where they lived together for nearly 50 years. Polly was a devoted mother of their three girls, Melanie, Lana, and Laura. She enjoyed staying home with them until all were in school. Then she taught school at Ben’s Ford and Bowling Green. Polly was very active in her daughters’ lives, and kept them involved in many activities. Polly returned to social work for the next 25 years, until she retired from the state at age 70. She was also a member of the Civic League.

Polly was an active member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church, where she loved to worship, fellowship, and serve. She loved her church family and always looked forward to revivals, dinners on the ground, and Bible school.

Polly also loved her girlfriends. She had close-knit friendships at every stage of life and they were all important to her, sharing many years of laughter and love. One of her favorite things to do was travel. She visited the beach at least twice a year with her group of girlfriends, and she was fortunate to enjoy several other special trips across the US and abroad.

Polly couldn’t get enough of her grandchildren. She loved keeping them and they loved her fun spirit. She was always a joy to be around, laughing and playing, acting silly and telling stories. Polly will be missed by her friends, her church, and her family, especially her girls. She will always be remembered for her smiles, kindness and laughter.
