Update on Aerial Mosquito Spraying in Washington Parish

On September 13, 2021 we reported that Washington Parish officials have scheduled an aerial spray operation for all populated areas within Washington Parish to help reduce the number of mosquitoes resulting from the flooding caused by Hurricane Ida. Click here for that report.

District 7 Washington Parish Councilman Carley King has provided an update that includes a map of the locations to be sprayed. Councilman King also reports that, after speaking with the contracted company, the chemical type should dissipate in the air no more than 3 hours after release.

Aware of the concerns of beekeepers, Councilman King also reports that Parish officials have consulted with the president of the beekeepers association and that all beekeepers registered with the State have been notified. A light sheet over beehives prior to the application would be beneficial and can be removed the morning after. No surfactants are used in this chemical application.

Also, nothing west of the Bogue Chitto River will be getting sprayed for mosquitoes.

The start date to begin spraying has been postponed due to weather.
