Royce Clifton Dowdy

October 03, 1927 - September 20, 2021

Royce C. Dowdy passed on Monday, September 20, 2021 at his home in Bogalusa, LA. Royce was born October 3, 1927 in Sumrall, MS to Otis C. and Ethel Herrin Dowdy.  He married Patsy Keaton on September 26, 1980.  Royce retired as a beloved Pastor and school teacher.  He was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a Deacon and on many committees. He also enjoyed traveling and fishing.

Royce is survived by his wife Patsy and his children Karen (Pat) Pierce of Richmond, VA; Ronald (Cindy) Dowdy of Nashville, TN; Judy (Bob) Soltner of Virginia Beach, VA; and Mark Dowdy of Chattanooga, TN.  His legacy will continue on through his 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Merle Hinote of Bogalusa, LA and his sister-in-law Teresa “Maria” McBurney and many nieces and nephews.

Royce was preceded in death by his son David W. Dowdy; a sister Eddie Marie Anderson; a brother Glenn L. Dowdy; and his close brother in laws, Hal Hinote and Jerry Anderson.

Due to Covid-19, a graveside service will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum in Ponemah Cemetery with Pastor Field Thigpen officiating.  Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be sent to Memorial Baptist Church or Salvation Army (Ida Relief).
