Evelyn Murphy McIntyre

September 15, 1925 - August 29, 2021

Evelyn Murphy McIntyre, age 96, was born September 15, 1925, as an identical twin, in the Methodist Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. She lived in Dixie Pine, MS, Rawls Springs, MS and Hattiesburg, MS when growing up. Evelyn graduated Hattiesburg High School in 1942. She continued her education in Jackson, MS where she graduated from Millsaps College with a BA degree in 1947. Later she graduated Southeastern Louisiana University with a master’s degree and Plus 30 in Education. Evelyn taught all grades in school except Pre-K and Kindergarten. She taught school in the following school systems: Panola County School System, Lawrence County School System, Bogalusa School System, St. Tammany Parish School System, and Washington Parish School System. Evelyn taught school for a total of 32 years. She retired in 1987. She loved to read and learn. She continued this hobby until her death, August 29, 2021.

Evelyn married Robert Glenn Turnage, Sr. after graduating from Millsaps College. She helped him graduate from Ole Miss Law School. Together they had three children: Robert Glenn Turnage, Jr., Charles Ralph Turnage, and Rebecca Helen Turnage.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: Sarah Frances Hooks Murphy and Charles Adolphus Murphy, Sr., her brother, Charles Murphy, her special cousin, William (Bill) Buckalew her son, Charles Ralph Turnage and numerous loved and adored aunts and uncles.

Evelyn is survived by: (Son) Robert Glenn Turnage, Jr. of Monticello MS (Daughter and Son- In- Law) Rebecca and Robert Mizell of Enon, LA (Grandchildren) Robert Vander Turnage and his wife Brandi of Madison, MS, Angela Mizell Warner and husband Blake Warner of Enon, LA, Jared Mizell of Enon, LA, Ben Mizell and his wife Sarah of Peewee Valley, KY. (Great Grandchildren) Sarah and Sydney Turnage of Madison, MS, Lanie and Tristen Warner of Enon, LA, Ruby, Max, and Gabe Mizell of Peewee Valley, KY.

Due to the ongoing Covid/Delta Pandemic a graveside service will be held in the Knight Memorial Gardens in Enon, LA for immediate family only at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon September 4, 2021. Reverend Chris Wheeler from Enon Baptist Church will officiate the service. Evelyn is a member of Enon Baptist Church.
