Tropical Outlook Today

Disturbance 1. Tropical Storm Fred is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to the Dominican Republic this morning and to Haiti and the Bahamas late today. TS Fred is moving west-northwest at 16 mph. Current sustained winds are near 40 mph. Wind and rainfall should impact Cuba and then Florida beginning Friday. However, it is too soon to determine the exact timing, location, and magnitude of potential impacts, especially along the northern gulf coast.

Disturbance 2. A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands may develop into a tropical depression by early next week while moving generally westward across the tropical Atlantic near 20 mph.  This system could reach portions of the Leeward Islands by late Saturday. Formation chance through 48 hours is at 20% and formation chance through 5 days is at 40%. (Scroll on down to see the 5 day track for this system)
