Obituary

Elmo Anthony Flot, Jr.

November 14, 1952 - August 05, 2021

Elmo Anthony Flot, Jr, age 68 and a resident of Bogalusa, departed his physical life and joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 5th, 2021, at St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in Harahan, Louisiana. He was born November 14, 1952, in Bogalusa, La. to the late Ola Mae Flot and Elmo Flot Sr. Elmo grew up in Lacombe Louisiana where he attended Chahta-Ima School.

His lifetime love of mechanics was evident at a very young age when he was often summoned to work on the school buses in need of mechanical repair. He carried this love throughout his adult life as he serviced vehicles for many neighbors, family members and friends. His work as a cement mason allowed him to support his family and provided him with a sense of pride and professional accomplishment.

Later in life he served as trustee & grounds/building keeper at Salters Chapel AME church in Bogalusa until his health failed. He served with a sense of humility and gratitude. He loved the word of God and praised Him for his daily mercies even during his times of great health adversity. He was adamant about maintaining his prayer life and holy communion even when it was a taxing effort due to his failing health.

Elmo was an avid Southern home style cook, gardener, and “back yard farmer”. He served others through a special cooking ministry which provided a free hot meal in the Bogalusa area. His family and friends cherished his home cooked meals as well. They often persuaded him to prepare his famous Southern staples like gumbo, red beans and rice, turkey necks/wings and chitlins. He found joy in these simple yet life sustaining gifts of love.

Since his earthly body has failed his spirit is present with the Lord and he has joined that realm with his paternal and maternal grandparents; his mother, Ola Mae Flot; father, Elmo Flot Sr; brothers, Tyronne & Karial; sisters, Cheioquito & Gwen; a son in love Derrick; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Along with his wife Thelma L. Flot of Bogalusa survivors include his children: Frankie Felisha Blackwell of New Orleans, Jordon Elmo (Tamira) Smith of Bogalusa, and Brittnay Miracle Buckley of New Orleans. Children in Love: Tonica (Gerald) Johnson of Bogalusa, Anthony Morris, Jacqueline Peters & Lajuan Morris all of Houston, Tx., and Garrod Morris of Odessa, Tx.

His legacy will continue through his siblings who revered his guidance as the family patriarch: Central (Tracy) Flot of Lacombe, Alfreda (Willie) Williams of Bryan, Tx., Christopher Flot of Bogalusa, Baron (Latonya) Flot of Bryan, Tx., Mae Smith of Bryan, Tx., Patricia (Latimore) Holmes of Bogalusa, Vera (Remy) Williams of Mandeville, Lisa Davis of Hammond, Anthony (Stacie) Flot of Austin, Tx., and Gretchen Dillon of Spring, Tx.; two aunts Audrey McGary & Alzola Ducre of Lacombe; four uncles Charlie Flot, of New York, Samuel (Loretta) Ducre  & Merlin Ducre both of Lacombe, and Ray Page Jr. of Milwaukee, WI.; two cousins whom he cherished as aunts; Mary Mingo of Bogalusa & Amanda Ducre of Lacombe; and a life-long childhood friend, Isaiah Casnave of Lacombe; grandchildren: Aaron, Acelyn, Kriss, Jordon, Jayrin, and Joshua; grandchildren in love: Tomeka, Darren, Shamari, Sheron, Tia, Zaniyah, Candes, Anthony, Alyssa, Antanique, Ajaylon, Shaniyah, Aniya, Alando, Jalisa, Jayla, Derrick, and Kingston; great-grandchildren: Arriyuna, Tylen, Rylen & Anthony Jr., and numerous other great grandchildren in love; 4 sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
