Obituary

Rita Tate

October 02, 1934 - August 10, 2021

Rita Tate was born on October 2, 1934 to Ike and Louise Ploughman of Angie Louisiana. She received her education in Angie.

From an early age, Rita raised her sisters Mary and Deane after the passing of their mother.  She had two sons James Earl and Oscar Lee.  She raised her niece Ruth Peters, great nephew Alex Peters, great niece Cynthia Peters- Curtain as her own and was the caregiver for Jasmine and La Damien as well. She cared for her granddaughters Nicole, Sonya and Renee each summer.

She was married to Eugene Tate and they served under the leadership of Reverend Lynwood Bolton at Center Baptist Church.  Rita proudly served as an usher and choir member.   

She worked for the Pittman family and was also employed by the Angie School District.

She was known for her famous canned pears and figs.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memory her loving son James Earl, her niece Ruth, sister Mary, great niece Cynthia, great-great nephews Calvin, and La Damien, great-great niece Jasmine (Jamaldo), granddaughters Nicole, Sonya (Ernest), Renee, grandson Kevin, nephew Dock (Stella), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.  

She was proceeded in death by her loving husband Eugene Tate, daughter: Sarah Ann; son: Oscar Lee Thompson; brothers: John Lee, Henry, Lawyer Ploughman, parents Ike and Louise Ploughman; sisters: Susie Ploughman-Roberts, Sophia Ploughman-Peters, Essic Ploughman, Deane Rayford and great- great nephew Alex Peters.

Drive through viewing will be Friday, August 20, from 6pm – 8pm at Crain and Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Saturday, August 21, 10am at Crain and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Robinson Cemetery in Varnado. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa is in charge of arrangements.
