Donald Ray Varnado, Sr.

January 16, 1954 - May 11, 2021

Donald Ray Varnado was born January 16, 1954 in Bogalusa, LA to the late Elder Luke E. Varnado and Mrs. Lucille B. Varnado Weary. On the morning of May 11, 2021 peacefully passed away in the arms of our Lord at Our Lady of the Angles Hospital in Bogalusa, LA.

Later in life he joined Harry’s Chapel UMC where he served as a member until his death.

Donald Ray was known as “The Vermit” in his boxing career. He traveled the world, and was known for his fast hands and moves.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Carol Varnado; one son, Donald Ray Varnado, Jr. of New York; one daughter, Lavor Polk of Odessa, TX; stepsons, Sean Forbes, Rev. Le’Eric (April) Forbes, and Quincy (Tamneka) Forbes; stepdaughters, Brittany (Michael) Miles and Dominique (Quanus) Lewis; mother-in-law “Second Wife”, Celia B. Forbes; three sisters, Delores Varnado, Bobbie (Alvin) Beck both of Bogalusa, LA and Nercille Jefferson of Angie, LA; three brothers, Emile (Christie) Varnado, Larry Varnado both of Bogalusa, LA, and Lamar Varnado of Houma, LA; one uncle, Charles Ray (Odessa) Brumfield; one aunt, Ruth (Willie Short) Muse of Bogalusa, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by father, Elder Luke E. Varnado and mother, Lucille B. Varnado Weary; two brothers, Luke Varnado, Jr. and Antonio Varnado; one sister, Dorothy Varnado Cox.

A drive through viewing will be Friday, May 21, 2021 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 1:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Nolan Robinson – Pastor Officiating. Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
