St. Tammany Monitoring Flood-Prone Areas

Forecasters are predicting continued severe weather and excessive rainfall into Friday and early Saturday.  With forecasts of high river levels, St. Tammany Parish Officials are monitoring the weather and river levels and have posted sandbag information. Residents are asked to be ready to evacuate, if necessary. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through noon on Saturday. Heavy and intense rainfall may lead to water covered roadways.

All sandbag locations will have sand and bags provided. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels in case all shovels provided are in use. In addition, residents are asked to limit the number of sandbags to 15 per vehicle. All locations (with the exception of the Old Levee District Site) will have personnel on-hand to assist the elderly or infirm.

The STPSO Operations Division has high water vehicles stationed throughout the parish and are closely monitoring the low-lying areas of our parish as well as river levels. Deputies are prepared to evacuate residents if necessary.
