Hilda Johnson Bateman

February 17, 1933 - February 23, 2021

Hilda Johnson Bateman, age 88 and a resident of the Clifton community, passed away Tuesday night February 23, 2021 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Franklinton. She was born on February 17, 1933 in Tylertown, MS to the late Hamlin W. Johnson and Velma Thomas Johnson. Hilda was a homemaker and hair stylist, working in her shop for many years. Over 25 years of her life were spent as the hair stylist at Heritage Manor. Hilda dearly loved and served countless ladies and gentlemen through the years and she would do anything she could to help them. She took every opportunity to comfort them, often asking residents and staff “Do you know my Jesus?” “Mrs. Hilda” was well known and loved before she herself became a resident there in 2018. Hilda was a longtime member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church and was in attendance there as long as her health allowed. Her beloved church family was a source of strength and encouragement to her. She was a wonderful cook and remembered for her homemade biscuits, pecan pies and chicken and dumplings.

Survived by: Son and Daughter in law: Mike and Margaret King of Clifton; Daughter and Son in law: Jean and Toney Johnson of Homer, LA; 3 Grandchildren and Spouses: Brent and Kristy Johnson, Dana and Greg Williams, Beth King; 5 Great-grandchildren; A Very Special Niece and Nephew: Rosemary Ginn, Douglas Sandifer both of Tylertown; Step-son: Jim Bateman and wife Pauline of Folsom and their family

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Ray Bateman, Sr., her first husband and father of her children James H. King, her parents, an infant brother Harry Lee, beloved sister Lucille Sandifer, nephew David Sandifer, and stepson Ray Bateman.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday February 27th from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday with Rev. Calvin Crowe officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery

The family greatly appreciates the tender, loving care of the nurses, doctors and staff of Heritage Manor as well as the staff of Community Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Bogue Chitto Baptist Church (41088 Hwy. 438, Mt. Hermon, LA 70450)
