Earl K. Varnado

January 20, 1936 - January 4, 2021

Earl K. Varnado, age 84 and a resident of Franklinton, died Monday evening January 4, 2021 at his home. He was a United States Air Force veteran of both the Korean War and Vietnam War. Earl proudly served his country in the Philippines, Laos and other areas before ending his service as an E-6 Technical Staff Sargent. He was a certified welder and mechanic that worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor at Windmill Nursery and later Franklinton Country Club. Earl was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church and became a member of Sunlight Baptist Church later in life. He was an avid bird hunter and also enjoyed fishing, but his favorite pastime was playing golf, which he loved to do as often as he could.

Survived by: Son and Daughter in law: David Varnado and Hazel G. Varnado of Franklinton; 4 Grandchildren: Haley, Hannah, Camryn, Joseph; Brother and Sister in law: James and Agnes Varnado of Franklinton; 2 Sisters and a Brother in law: Lorelle and Pete Hill, Juette Cooper; Sister in law: Fran Varnado; Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Whitworth Varnado, father Eugene Varnado, mother Eula Owen Stringfield Varnado, brothers Billy Varnado, Lavern Stringfield, sisters Wanzie S. Woods, Maxine S. Baham, Margie S. Creel and an infant sister Lucille Varnado.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Franklinton (903 Cleveland Street, Franklinton) on Saturday January 9th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Saturday with Rev. Milton Kleisch and Dr. Cody Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery.
