Obituary

Herbert Anthony Angel

September 19, 1949 - November 28, 2020

On Saturday, November 28, 2020, at 7:15 pm, God saw that Herbert “Baby” Anthony Angel was tired and called him home to eternal rest at 71 years of age.  He was born in Crowley, LA on September 19, 1949.

Herbert attended Henry Clay Ross Elementary and High School graduating in 1968.  He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served two years where he earned the rank of E4 and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in combat in Vietnam. After serving in the Marines Herbert continued his art career. He was a talented cartoon artist and created his own cartoon series.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Mary Brown Angel of Bogalusa, LA; his son Michael Woods of Crowley, LA; his daughter Sharita Angel of Dallas, TX; step children Christopher Brown of Bogalusa, Deider (Larry) Newkrik of Varnado, LA, Anita Peters of Foxworth, TX, and Sherrie Conerly of Trenton, NJ; his brothers Wilbert Angel, Jr. of Crowley, LA and Larry Melancon of Houston, TX; his sisters Lois Cormier Melancon of Crowley, LA, Pamela (Steven) Alfred of Lake Charles, LA, and Cheryl Angel of Houston, TX; brothers-in-law Ray (Jeanette) Brown of Wichita, KS, Glenn (Joyce) Brown of Bogalusa, LA, Yusef Komunyakaa of NY; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbert Angel, Sr. and Rye Cormier Angel; his paternal grandparents Duey and Hilda Angel; maternal grandparents Joseph and Felicie Cormier; and one son Dexter Guillory.

Services are going to be Sunday, December 6, 2020, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm and the funeral service starting at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home.  Rev. Paul Corse will officiate the service which will conclude in the Chapel with full military honors performed by Magic City American Legion Post #24. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Wilbert Angel, Jr., Larry Melancon, Wynston Cormier, Lyonal Cormier, Christopher Brown, and Janean Green.
