Slidell Police Report 2 Separate Fatal Accidents

In less than a week, Slidell Police have investigated two separate fatal accidents.

The first accident occurred shortly before 10pm on Tuesday (September 22, 2020) on the Robert Boulevard/Interstate 12 overpass, and claimed the life of 50-year-old Jennifer L. Hutchinson. Hutchinson, who was walking in the roadway, was struck by two separate vehicles. The drivers of both vehicles stated they did not see Hutchinson walking along the overpass. Hutchinson was transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans, but later succumbed to her injuries.

Both drivers voluntarily submitted to a chemical test, both of which yielded negative results. Toxicology is pending for Hutchinson, however, impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor. At this time, no charges have been filed in this incident. The investigation is on-going.

The second accident occurred Sunday (September 27, 2020) evening, shortly after 9pm. A 2004 Chevy Avalanche, driven by 26-year-old, Cornelius Guitroz of Marrero, was travelling south on Highway 11. A witness stated the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, and almost struck another vehicle head-on. Guitroz apparently overcorrected to avoid the collision, causing the vehicle to flip and crash into a nearby tree line. Guitroz sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. St. Tammany Fire District #1 extricated three children from inside of the vehicle, all of which miraculously survived and only sustained minor injuries.

Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash, and toxicology is pending.
