Two Pedestrians Killed in Washington Parish Crash

Shortly before 5:00 am on July 16, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began
investigating a fatal crash involving two pedestrians on LA Hwy 1075 north of LA Hwy 1074 in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the lives of 27-year-old Liltricia Lewis of Bogalusa and 37-year-old Larshuandra Holmes of Tylertown, MS.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Lewis and Holmes were walking southbound in the southbound lane of LA Hwy 1075. At the same time, 64-year-old Beverly Blackwell of Bogalusa was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 1075 in a 2019 Nissan Rouge. As Lewis and Holmes were walking, they were struck by the Nissan.

Both Lewis and Holmes sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and were pronounced deceased at the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from Lewis and Holmes for analysis. Blackwell was properly restrained and was not injured. She was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes. Troopers would also like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that making good choices, such as never driving while impaired and ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, can often be key to preventing and surviving serious crashes.
