Motorcyclist From Kentwood Dies in Crash

On Monday, July 20, 2020, shortly after 7:30 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L
responded to a motorcycle crash on LA 1054 north of LA 40 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Christopher J. Acosta, Jr. of Kentwood.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Acosta was northbound on LA 1054 on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. As the roadway curved to the right, the motorcycle continued straight and traveled off the roadway. The motorcycle impacted a drainage culvert and Acosta was ejected. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Acosta was wearing an approved DOT helmet, and impairment is not suspected. As part of the investigation, a blood sample was collected for scientific analysis from Acosta.

Troopers urge drivers to always be aware of motorcyclists around them, and likewise, urge motorcyclists to engage in safe riding practices when on our roadways. Motorcyclists should practice safe and responsible operator behavior such as obeying speed limits, wearing a helmet, and never operating their motorcycle under any form of impairment. If motorists witness hazardous situations or possible impaired drivers, they may dial *LSP (*577) to be connected to the nearest Troop to report that activity.
