Obituary

Gaylon Ray McElveen
December 16, 1942 - June 19, 2020



Gaylon Ray McElveen, age 77 and a longtime resident of Mount Hermon, died Friday morning June 19, 2020 at his home. He was retired after a 34 and a half year career with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division. He really loved the beautiful trees and the great outdoors. Gaylon raised beef cows for many years and always loved his animals. He had a true passion for caring for them and all the work he did around the farm. Gaylon enjoyed going out to eat fried catfish and all his favorite foods with his beloved family and visiting with his sister Annie each week, often going out for a good meal.

Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Lisa and Jim Miller of Mt. Hermon; Daughter in law: Jean McElveen of Mt. Hermon; Grandchildren and Spouses: Brandon Ray McElveen and Kayla Ricks, Nicholas Donovan McElveen all of Mt. Hermon, Tyler and Kalin Lindsey of Bogalusa, Trevor Lindsey of Kentwood, Ethan Miller of Mt. Hermon, Justin Landry, Zac Hebert, Blake Day; Great-grandchildren: Casey McElveen, Kaiden McElveen, Natalie Hebert, Bentlie Hebert, Blake Zapata, Stella Lindsey, Vanessa Day, Hannah Day, Mia Hebert, Heidi Hebert; Brother and Sister in law: Truman and Anna McElveen of Mt. Hermon; Sisters: Annie Peavey of Pine Grove, Bonnie Brabham of Kentwood; Sister in law: Judy McElveen of Kentwood; Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

He was preceded in death by his son Donovan Ray McElveen, wife Mavis Sue Creel McElveen, parents Wilmer McElveen and Eunice Duncan McElveen, a brother Joe McElveen and sister Vergie McElveen.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Maples Cemetery near Mt. Hermon at 5:30 pm Monday June 22nd with Rev. Ray Werzer officiating.

Pallbearers: Brandon McElveen, Tyler Lindsey, Trevor Lindsey, Ethan Miller, Steve Travis, Josh Budde

Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, Louisiana is in charge of arrangements.
