Essie Mae Harvey
January 21, 1929 - December 03, 2019



Essie Mae Burton Harvey was born to the late Esters Burton and Ruby Conerly Burton on January 21, 1929 in Washington Parish, Louisiana. She was called to return unto the Lord on December 3, 2019 at the age of 90.

At a very early age Sister Harvey united with Lear Hill Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop J. W. White. Later she joined the right hand of fellowship with Magee’s Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Monroe Magee, where she served diligently and faithfully as an usher, YWCC committee member, Junior Church Mother, later appointed Church Mother under the leadership of Administrative Assistant Cecealine Tate.

Essie was united in holy matrimony to Ephfon Harvey on December 2, 1948. She celebrated 43 years of marriage and to this union they were blessed with 12 children.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ella Louise “Honey” Burton; father, Esters Burton; husband, Ephfon Harvey; grandson, Elijah Leanos; mother, Ruby Burton; brother, John Esters Burton; and grandson Malcolm Paul Harvey.

Essie Mae leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her loving memories: Her 12 children, Ephfon Harvey Jr. (Vera) of Franklinton, Louisiana, Veronica Ward of Tacoma, Washington, Stevon Harvey of Tacoma, Washington, Charles Edward Harvey (Rose) of Fresno, California, Jeffery Harvey (Gloria) of Franklinton, Louisiana, Johnny Esters Harvey (Joanna) of Mesa, Arizona, Matthew Harvey (Bernice) of Kent, Washington, Shelia Bernadette Harvey of Fresno, California, Willie Ray Harvey (Cecilia) of Fresno, California, Alicia Tyniece Harvey of Fresno, California, Jennifer Marie Simmons of Atlanta, Georgia, and Tiffany Harvey of Fresno, California; 29 Grandchildren: Mailia, Jeremy, Jordan, Cleveland III, Julius Paul, Zepporah, Mitchell, Kevin, Phelicia, Eric, Rheashuntrish, Kristal, Tiffany, Samantha, Jonathan, Deon, Nicholas, Calvin, Matthew, Willie, Keith, Adison, Joshua, Earth, Geneva, Meshach, Brandi, Skye, and Storm; 42 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren, 4 brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Her favorite song: “Real, Real, Real, Jesus Is Real to Me.”

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 2:00p.m. – 6:00p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 12 Noon at Magee’s Temple Church of God in Christ with Administrative Assistant Cecealine Tate, pastor officiating.
