Where:
Woodlake Addiction Recovery 400 Memphis St., Bogalusa, LA

Who:
Governor John Bel Edwards; Dr. Rebekah Gee, Secretary, Louisiana Department of Health; Representative Malinda White; Randy Gomez, CEO, Woodlake Addiction Recovery; Rene Ragas, CEO, Our Lady of the Angels Hospital; Dr. Garland Anderson, Our Lady of the Angels, Family Medicine

Why:
Communities across the nation struggle to combat the opioid epidemic and rural populations are especially vulnerable. This is especially true in the Florida Parishes, per the Louisiana Opioid Data and Surveillance System. Provider shortages, lack of transportation, the stigma of addiction, and a need for additional resources have all contributed to a rise in opioid use in rural communities.
