April 23, 1940 - November 13, 2019
Velda “Jean” Smith Byrd, age 79 and a resident of the Sheridan community, entered her Heavenly home on November 13, 2019. Her memory will be cherished by her family and friends. She was a longtime member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and was devoted to her church and family. God and family were her priorities and babies were her joy.
Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Craig Barber, Vicki and Craig Hamilton, and Sherlyn and Richard Freeman; two sisters Melba Pizzolato and Jan Smith; a brother Darryl Smith; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren with another due to arrive soon.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Taylor Ellis Byrd, parents Rudolph Smith and Dorothy Meyers Smith and a great-grandson Joshua David Bennett.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Friday, November 15th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Friday with Eld. Tommy Hudnall, Eld. Doyle Ball and Eld. Duane Ball officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jordan Freeman, Chris Lang, Matt Parker, Patrick Parker, Zach Parker, Andrew Pigott, and Brandon Talley.
