Speaking at the ceremony were Governor John Bel Edwards; Dr. Rebekah Gee, Louisiana Department of Health Secretary; Representative Malinda White; Randy Gomez, CEO of Woodlake Addiction Recovery; Rene Ragas, Our Lady of the Angels Hospital CEO; Family Medicine Dr. Garland Anderson, Our Lady of the Angels.
The speakers described the opioid crisis that exists in our communities and how Woodlake will be addressing the crisis head-on, positively changing and saving lives. Representative Malinda White was recognized for spearheading the project, with Governor Edwards referring to her as “the most persistent person I have ever met” and Secretary Gee saying “you are unsinkable and you will not be told no”. White spoke, describing why bringing the facility to Bogalusa was (and is) near and dear to her heart.
Although it was a cold and windy morning, the ceremony was well-attended by local officials and other members of the community.
