Beatrice "Bea" Barber Athey
August 20, 1939 - October 30, 2019


Beatrice "Bea" Barber Athey, age 80 and a resident of Franklinton, died Wednesday night October 30, 2019 at Riverside Medical Center. She was a former Certified Nursing Assistant that enjoyed sewing and crocheting, often making quilts and blankets for her family and others. Bea was an avid LSU Tigers fan that was also an excellent cook, especially her homemade biscuits and tomato gravy. She was a longtime member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church.

Survived by: 7 Children and Spouses: Jerry Wayne and Pam M. Athey of Franklinton, Gary Lane and Carolyn L. Athey of Baton Rouge, Lisa Dianne A. and Thomas Polkey, Sr., James Albert Athey, Theresa Jeanette A. and Richard Hanson, John Athey all of Franklinton, Lloyd O’dell Athey of Morton, MS; A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Sisters: Lucille Easley of Amite, Mattie Rowell of Sun; Brother in law: Willis Barber of Franklinton; Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Floyd “Poly” Athey, parents Marley Barber and Mary Carter Barber, sisters Dorothy Cooper, Louise Athey, brothers Ray Barber, Junior Barber, daughter in law Dolly Athey, sister in law Minnie Bell Athey and other family members.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to close family friends Becky Bickham and Blaine Bickham for all the care and support they gave to our loved one.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday November 2nd from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday with Eld. Gary Sumrall and Eld. Ed Penton officiating. Burial will follow in the Magee Cemetery at Lawrence Creek.

Pallbearers: Keith Polkey, Brent Athey, Joseph Athey, Bennie Athey, Daniel Athey, Stanley Polkey, Joshua Athey
