Rayfus Martin
January 12, 1930 - June 24, 2019



Rayfus Martin transitioned from Earth to Glory on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the age of 89 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Franklinton, La.

Rayfus was born on Sunday, January 12, 1930 in Franklinton, La. to the parents of the late Archie and Alma Wilson Martin. He was united in matrimony to Elnora Lowe Martin. This union bought about one child, Mechelle Denise Martin.

His educational background was comprised of the following; Completion from the Washington Parish Training School, a bachelor’s degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, La. and Zealand College, Baker, La. ; a Master’s Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, La. He loved his field of discipline which was English, History, and Government.

Rayfus was drafted in the United States Army and was an honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War.

He was elected to Franklinton’s Town Council five (5) consecutive four year terms and he participated in an array of organizations like: Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, 2a. Council of English Teachers, Young Authors Club, Eureka Lodge #27 Free and Accepted Masons, Franklinton, La., Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA), Good Samaritan Living Center Board of Directors and American Legion Post #537.

His faith was Baptist and he was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Rayfus was retired and loved visiting local schools, eateries, and businesses. His favorite quote was “When a boy goes bad, a man dies.” His philosophy has always been that “Education isn’t everything, it is the only thing.”

The celebration of Rayfus Martins life will be Saturday, June 29, 2019 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Franklinton, La. 70438. Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
