Ed Newman
February 12, 1943 - May 24, 2019



James Edward Newman, age 75 and a resident of Franklinton, died Friday morning May 24, 2019 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was a lifelong carpenter/contractor and the owner of James “Ed” Newman Construction, working alongside his family to build houses and businesses throughout the area. Ed had served as a Washington Parish Police Juryman and attended Mount Zion Pentecostal Church. Later in life he enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle. Ed always loved deer hunting, often with his deer hound dogs, and also enjoyed dove hunting.

Survived by: 2 Sons and Daughters in law: James Eric and Vicki Newman, Brent Edward and Jamie Newman all of Franklinton; Daughter and Son in law: Rebecca and Caleb Coates of Denham Springs; Grandchildren: Joshua Newman, Nick Newman, Trent Newman, Haley Newman, Carlee Newman, Caitlyn Newman, Aubree Coates, Kirsten Coates, Sadie Coates, CJ Brooks, Kira Brooks; 2 Great-grandchildren: Easton Newman, Kennedy Newman; Sister: Ethel Bell of Franklinton; Sister in law: Ruby Newman of Franklinton

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Newman, Sr. and Tina Crowe Newman, brothers Walter Newman, Jr., Lavon Newman, Marion Newman and sister Ruby Hill.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Sunday May 26th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Monday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Monday with Rev. Leon Hickman and Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyson Cemetery.
